Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensors
PURPOSE
- The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor determines the intake manifold pressure or vacuum
FUNCTION
- Sends voltage signal to the ECM which changes with the varying pressure/vacuum within the intake manifold
- ECM uses signal to determine engine load and ensure proper air/fuel ratio
POSITION
- Intake manifold, throttle body or remote mounted under hood
CAUSE FOR REPLACEMENT
- Check engine lamp illumination
- Engine hesitation
- Poor fuel economy
- Failed emissions test
- Engine stalling
- Extended crank time

Mass Air Flow Sens ors
PURPOSE
- The mass air flow sensor determines air volume as it enters a fuel injected engine.
FUNCTION
- Air mass information is necessary for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to balance and deliver the correct fuel mass to the engine
POSITION
- In the intake air stream between the air cleaner and before the throttle body
CAUSE FOR REPLACEMENT
- Check engine lamp illumination • Excessive fuel consumption
- Delay in acceleration
- Lack of power

VVT Solenoids

FAILURE PREVENTION
Variable valve timing solenoids have a fine mesh screen which cover the oil ports. This screen reduces the opportunity for them to become clogged over time and increases part efficiency.
- Prior to installation it is suggested that you lubricate the VVT solenoid O-rings and install per OEM specifications
- NTK recommends a vehicle oil and filter change at the time of replacement to ensure proper VVT operation and warranty
